In Serbia, the teaching of basic principles of toxicology and its specialties has been traditionally conducted within a Faculty of Pharmacy curriculum.
Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Belgrade began to operate on 24 October 1939 as a Pharmaceutical Department within the Faculty of Medicine. The first generation of 129 students enrolled in the same year, but the outbreak of World War II interrupted classes and they were renewed after its completion. Faculty of Pharmacy remained closely connected with the Faculty of Medicine until the year of 1991 when it finally got its own building.It is currently equipped modernly and located in a building which houses a rich and specialized library, computer centers and museum of the history of pharmacy. Academic work is organized within the 17 departments, which bring together the work of numeorus related items.
Department of Toxicology "Akademik Danilo Soldatović" during its long tradition has dealt with the science of poisons with particular emphasize on the following areas: toxicology of metals, toxicology of pesticides, abuse of drugs, mechanisms of toxicity, treatment and prophylaxis of poisoning, analytical toxicology, ecotoxicology and risk assessment for human health and the environment. Within this department following subjects are taught: Toxicology and analytics, Drugs of abuse, Free radicals and antioxidants and their laboratory diagnostics, Acute Drug Poisoning, Analysis in Clinical Toxicology, Ecotoxicology, Risk Assessment for Human Health and Acute Drug Poisoning.
Postgraduate education in toxicology is also conducted in the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade.

Recently, chairs on toxicology and related disciplines also have been established in a number of other Serbian universities. Among these are the following:
