In Serbia, the teaching of basic principles of toxicology and its specialties has traditionally been conducted within a Faculty of Pharmacy curriculum. The Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Belgrade began on 24 October 1939 as a Pharmaceutical Department within the Faculty of Medicine. The first class of 129 students enrolled the same year, but the outbreak of World War II interrupted studies, whiche were renewed at the end of the war. The Faculty of Pharmacy remained closely connected with the Faculty of Medicine until 1991 when it finally got its own building. It is now equipped with modern technology and tools and located in a building which houses a rich and specialized library, computer centers, and a museum of the history of pharmacy. Academic work is organized within the 17 departments, which bring together the work of numeorus related items.
