8 of the original Hanford reactors plan to be moved inland away from the Columbia River. This move would be highly dangerous if fulfilled before the 75 year waiting period, which would insure that radiation had decayed at least to a safe level for workers to move them. At present the reactors sit cocooned around the northern end of the Hanford site in the 100 Area, along the river. The move would hopefully insure that the river did not mix with the radioactive materials in the reactors.
