Toxipedia Editing Service

PRUNING WORDS, GROWING IDEAS

Good ideas deserve to be communicated effectively. That's why Toxipedia collaborates with writers to create publications that allow ideas to leap off the page and influence readers.

We can edit lightly to catch errors, delve into the content, or help you organize your ideas before you get started. If you're writing and feel stuck or want another pair of eyes, we can help.

Our editor Maria M. Williams holds a Professional Editing Certificate from UC Berkeley and has nine years of experience in environmental education, writing, and research. Toxicologist Steven Gilbert, PhD DABT, founder and director of Toxipedia, is available for content review of publications about toxicology and environmental health.

Toxipedia Editing Service is a project of The Institute of Neurotoxicology and Neurological Disorders (INND), a nonprofit organization that distributes scientific information about the health and environmental impacts of toxic chemicals.

Toxipedia Editing Service and Toxipedia Web Development Services serve the progressive community and build partnerships that strengthen initiatives to create a more sustainable society.

Services Offered

COPYEDITING

Enhance clarity, coherence, consistency, and correctness of manuscript. Revise unclear or wordy sentences or paragraphs; remove redundant text; flag factual inconsistencies, possible content errors, and faulty organization; provide guidance on appropriate tone; and correct errors in grammar, syntax, usage, and mechanics. We offer light, medium, and heavy copyediting to suit the level of review desired.

SUBSTANTIVE EDITING

Closely examine overall organization to ensure that topics are developed well, ordered logically, and transition smoothly. Appropriately emphasize key points. As needed, flag content gaps, reorder topics, add or modify introductions and summaries, reorganize headings and subheadings, maintain appropriate tone, suggest effective use of graphics, sidebars, etc.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING

Provide guidance on tone, organization, topic development, and clarity of content before or during the writing process. Suggestions address overall structure and format; topic development and transitions; gaps in content; use of introductions, tables of contents, summaries, and graphic elements; and appropriate tone. Developmental editing does not include copyediting tasks; it focuses on big-picture analysis to help writers create a well organized, clear, and consistent manuscript.
