Overview
The Nishapur, or Neyshabur, train disaster was actually an immense explosion in the village of Khayyam near Nishapur, Iran on February 18, 2004. Over 300 people were killed and the entire village destroyed when a runaway freight train carrying sulfur, petrol, and fertilizer caught fire and exploded in the middle of the night.
